I have been a writer for the past 10 years and counting and just last month in fact, I completed my 1000th article post in this blog.
In the past, I was focused so much on creating content week after week that I did not give much thoughts to all the other important areas of digital marketing, one of them being Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
I learned a lot of the things that developer does as well as what other social marketing does but that was just a scratch in the making through trial and error.
It was in the last 3 years that I started to realize the importance of SEO over time – specifically on how it could allow me get to a greater reach of the general mass public and how I can continue to improve on the on-page SEO on my blog but I was lacking the time and skills to it (even while navigating the many articles of SEO on the internet it was not that straightforward).
On the past weekend, I finally attended a 2-day SEO Training Course organized by Equinet Academy which was conducted online via Zoom.
This set-up was perfect for me because I’ve been working from home so much in the past year that it allows me naturally to get right into the gear.
For those who prefer a face to face set-up, they also have that with limited social distancing due to COVID compliance.
The instructor for the course was Kevin Dam (I have included his Linkedin in the link in case anyone wants to check his credentials). He came from a vast of knowledge in the field and has helped many clients achieve better SEO results.
There were 18 other participants including myself, so the class was not overwhelmingly full.
The participants came from all sorts of different backgrounds so that helps the class be more flavourful when it comes to discussion. There were participants who came from digital marketing background working for their employers, another from entrepreneur business owners and a couple few like myself as a content creator.
The course content was very comprehensive and the slides itself (which you can keep after the class) was more than 120 pages long. There was just so much to absorb in the 2-day class – both in terms of the theory and real life examples.
I like how in particular the way the instructor conducted the course with the right amount of theory and framework and then quickly switch to real life examples so you are not bombarded with just the theory but also know how to apply them in your situation.
There were also pop quizzes throughout the session to remind the participants what are the important key takeaways and there was even an exam at the end of the session to make sure that the participants were able to do some work and learnings takeaway.
The instructor was also nice enough to give every individual a personal feedback on the work each of us has done.
If I had just one small feedback about the session, it was that the lunch timing was a little late at 1pm. Because I am so used to eating lunch before 12, I must admit that I lost focus a little bit by the time the clock strike 12 so for the next hour or so I was mostly just looking forward to my break session. But that is just me.
The course also enable participants to resit (1 refresher seat) within the next 1 year so just in case they want to refresh their knowledge on the subject they can always do that.
There is also post-training support available which allows participants to direct and post their questions in the support chat group as well as an unlimited clinic sessions (smaller group consultation with the trainer) for up to 3 years.
Overall, I think this is a course which I would recommend to any one interested in learning about the basic of SEO.
The course taught us about how we can navigate the keyword research and on-page SEO navigation but also the offline ways and methods we can use in order to further boost the credibility of the business/website.
In fact, I will probably get right into implementation because it is just so relevant to what I am already doing in creating content.
This is also very relevant for someone who is a business owner because you want to compete with your competitors who might be already getting ahead of you in terms of the SEO. It does not matter if you have a slightly better product if you cannot reach to the larger mass.
A good analogy to that would be of Mcdonald – they don’t serve the best burger out there but they have the largest revenue share in terms of number of burger sold. I think you get the idea.
If you are a content creator, influencer, business owner or simply just someone who’s interested to learn more about SEO, you can sign up on their SEO course training website at an affordable S$88 Nett (after a 90% subsidies funding eligibility). You can utilize on your SkillsFuture credit if you have not done so.
Finally, I can tick off this from my checklist box now that I have completed the course.

uncle168,
this is why sph media will be privatised via cheating:
“Printed copies of the documents will NOT be despatched to members but will be made available on request.”
all the shareholders will not receive the physical proxy form to vote.
this is against the ministry of law that state that company must despatch physical proxy form even if all content is online.
most of sph shareholders are old people that don’t use the internet.
the gov is so evil to do this.
scm i think only temasek vote for the rights issue against all the 72K minority shareholders who voted no but this is not disclosed again against corporate governance the vote should be decided by the number of shareholders and not by the percentage of shareholdings.
the gov is so evil to do this.
