This is a relatively quiet month as I’ve made my only purchase for King Wan for the month of December. You can review my previous post on the analysis of KW here.
The portfolio has decreased slightly from previous month of $280,820 to $279,780 this month mainly due to the drop in SCI as further pressure on oil prices remains. As it seems, I will end the year with a lower portfolio figure but I have no worries yet as I remain confident in the business in the long term.
The amount of annual dividend income as a result of this month’s purchase is estimated to be at $14,528. This represents an average of 5.19% yield based on current market price.
I’m keeping some of the bonus as warchest for next year opportunity so I’ll be keen to see where the market will move early next year. As always, Jan month is the best month indicator of how the market is going to perform overall so it’ll be good to keep some cash for these opportunities.
This is it. The last portfolio update for the year and I am pretty satisfied of how things are going at the moment. Hopefully, it’ll be an even better year next year as we probably will see good opportunities coming in.
I’m vested in the above 13 companies as of writing. How has your portfolio done in 2014?

Hi Richard
Thanks for your support all these while.
Welcome to the investment blog and I hope to be able to interact with you more in the future. Your blog looks great and I can't wait to visit your next post soon. I've also added them to my list so I'll be visiting them frequently.
Have a great year ahead and Merry Xmas.
Hi Brian,
Did you happen to calculate the CAGR on the portfolio for YTD 2014? That would be an interesting exercise as you will account for withdrawals and additions (Excel XIRR function).
So far for me this year, I have under-performed the index, but on an absolute return basis, I am still positive.
Thanks! Happy New Year!
Hi MW
I actually just did that and including dividends I have returned 13.8% for 2014, which is higher than the STI index of 5.6% using the XIRR method.
The main downside is mainly on Sembcorp, otherwise I could have a very good year in 2014.
I guess SIAENG and MTQ have dragged your performance for this year though they have been an excellent investment for you thus far.
That's an excellent return! Keep it up! Yes there was drag from those positions but overall the portfolio is steady. Well, hope next year will be better. ๐
Wow B!
Always my idol as always. Due to oil price pressure ur portfolio is about 279k. Im sure next year would be your year to see a 300k portfolio easily!!!
Working hard and coming towards u!
Jfree
Hi jfree
Thanks for your kind comments as always.
I hope to achieve the $300k milestone by next year but with the market approaching some consolidation mode, I may play some waiting game to enter my selected stock at a given margin of safety.
Please keep your post coming along too and rock along with your dividend income strategy in 2015.
Hi B,
Where do you see 2015 heading?
Hi SRSI
I am actually quite bullish on 2015.
With oil prices on the rock and deflationary period, I think the Fed may have to be very wary about raising interest rates very soon. I think it will play out in the second half of the year though it will not be until 2016 where I guess they will do it.
very nice portfolio, the 5% seems very comfortable
I currently also own semb corp industries and st engineering, hope they will both do well in 2015
my portfolio is kinda more focused as I currently own only 4 stocks, i kinda like betting big on each of them (example I hold 15 lots of SCI)
merry xmas and happy new year ^
Hi Felix
Focusing on a few stocks is actually a very good strategy which I will consider in the future as I gain more knowledge about investing. At this moment, I think even though I own 13 different stocks, but the majority has been the top 4. The rest I am just waiting out to see if there are further development that would justify my addition to these stocks.
Keep it going and rocking on in 2015 Felix ๐
Hi there,
I see that you like REITs a lot. Five of your investments are REITs.
Anyway, nice updates. Look forward to more sharing from you.
Happy new year and congratulations on your graduation from MBA!

Hi Gerald
Reits played a big part in my dividend income strategy over the past few years. I've been cautious to diversify them this year and I think they've now formed much lesser weightage than they used to be.
Appreciate your kindest thoughts.
Hi B,
Somehow my previous comment didn't go through. Anyway, nice portfolio you have there. Many analyst has been saying the 2015 will be a 'stockpicking' year. Are there any stocks other than those existing in your portfolio that you are looking at or monitoring? I think many of us would be interested to know ๐

Hi Secretinvestors
Thanks for your kind comments.
I'm watching a few in my watchlist, I would like to see them go a bit lower before entering so they have a good business model with sustainable earnings just a tad too expensive at the moment. Should the market reacts negatively in the coming months, it will be a good chance for me to add.
